I have a 3 yr. old encountering the same thing. He had adrenal surgery and had his left adrenal removed a couple of months ago. At that time our vet found tumors on his pancreas but weren't insulinomas, liver cancer, and a mottled looking spleen. He was dropped in the petstore as a kit and then put in the store room because they couldn't sell him so the leg was never treated. The leg hasn't given him any trouble until now. Now it seems to go out to the side instead of ini front when he walks. He is gettin .5 cc of pediapred twice a day and is fed the duck soup at least every 4 hrs. Not sure what to do at this point. He didjust lose his sister a couple of days ago and that's when he started having the most trouble so is getting extra attention in case of being depressed.

Hind leg weakness -- in both legs -- is usually in response to serious illness, esp. insulinoma. The reason I mentioned it is because people are new to ferrets often don't realize that ferrets do this very commonly for a serious illness so may put off going to the vet in a timely fashion.

Your ferret does not have one or more lymph node up, or a high fever, or other signs of illness? (BTW, Their temperatures run higher than our's do and the fever range is shorter so people shouldn't be concerned till over 103 and be very concerned at 105'F and over.)

I doubt you are encountering those things; you would have said so. Ah, I see in looking at your post that you write:
>There has been no sign of illness, he eats
>well, continues to gain weight and grow.
>My vets believe it's due to an injury and
>prescribed Prednicare to reduce inflamation.
>This seems to have been effective as he is
>much better but he still looks a little sore.

Good!

Yes, ferrets can and do injure themselves at times and kits are not used to thier own limitations, yet, just like human kids and tyhen things like trying to keep them quiet, and using a steroid make sense to help them heal.
