Benadryl works as an antihistamine. If the cause is an allergy it will help.

If there is reason to think that it is not an allergy:
Ferrets don't get our viral colds which are caused by a rhinovirus, but they do get our bacterial sinus infections which people often mistake for a cold. For these the vet will provide antibiotics.

They also catch Influena A strains, and get some more serious problems.
