Hi, we started our 6 year old insulinomic male Tibbie on dex on the 11th. The pred was at it's highest dose, not doing much and irritating his stomach so much he couldn't eat on his own. No amount of carafate helped. He is also on diazoxide. The dex strength is 0.5mg/mloil, he gets .2ml every other day.
My question is- is this a usual dose?
He has to have karo syrup in his soup to keep his blood sugars up. Please no one give me the NO sugar lecture. He has had insulinoma for almost two years and now is at end stage, the meds aren't cutting it anymore.
My father baby sat yesterday and said he ate his soup good all day and didn't seem to have any low blood sugar issues. He had his dex. in the morning. Through the night he was back to the low blood sugars before every meal again. I had to give him karo to get him alert enough to eat.
The other day when he got his dex he seemed to have a pretty good day.
Is it just a matter of more time? Does the dose need to be higher? I know it takes a while to build up in his system and dosing every other day I would assume would take longer. Or should he have it every day? My vet has not used this before to treat insulinoma.
