Giving up on a 3 year old ferret would be like euthanisizing a 30 year old.

Instead, get the ferret medical care.

This ferret needs to get to the vet ASAP and have some tests run, especially a CBC with Chemistry Panel and if the vet can do the blood glucose in-hospital that would make sense.

This ferret needs treatment; it's all part of having a loving home. No reason to give up on someone who is pretty much the same age as you are (but in ferret years) when those medical professionals -- vets -- who know veterinary needs are prepared to provide the hope that understanding a medical problem and treating it provide.

(Ferrets grow up more rapidly than we do, but think of a year for them as about the same as 10 years for us. It's pretty accurate. 2 and 3 are the physical prime of life for them like our 20s and 30s are for us (though I think the 40s are better for head-set in humans since it is often a peaceful and secure age bracket) Anyway, don't give up on someone who is in the prime of life, please. Treat instead.)
