Sammy, our shelter's mascot, was a confirmed case of hypothyroidism. That was many years ago so I don't recall all the details, but he was definitely overweight! I think he had skin problems too, but it was years ago and my memory is foggy.

I remember even faxing Sammy's medical records to Dr. Williams because he had not seen hypothyroidism in ferrets. He confirmed that it indeed appeared to be an accurate diagnosis. I believe a blood test of T4 levels will confirm this condition.

I'll email you our former shelter operator's contact info and also our vet's info, though I doubt the vet would even come close to remembering this case.
