Subject: Hypothyroid ferrets----skin problems!

Mike was right about Sammy being a confirmed case
of hypothyroidism in ferrets, he seemed to always have
his head in the food dish and was very overweight.
However Jake was the ferret with hypothyroidism
and skin problems. He did put on weight, but did not
become excessively overweight. Before diagnosis he
would simply 'blimp up', in fact I used to joke that
we should tie on a string and he could float in the
air like the Goodyear Blimp, it was more fluid than
fat. At the same time he would develop terrible sores
and his ears, plus the bridge of his nose would swell,
he looked miserable.
After diagnosis and the start of thyroid
medication he never looked back and none of his
symptoms returned. Unfortunately I do not remember the
tests that were done, or the medication---Angela.
