I agree with this 100%. I've seen a number of 10 year
olds, one 11 year old, and two ferrets that lasted to
age 13. Excessive weight loss or fraily is *always*
associated with some kind of medical problem.

With an eight year old I certainly wouldn't give up.
I'd start him on Bob Church's Chicken Gravy to help
get his weight up. I'd also schedule a vet
appointment ASAP to try and find the underlying
problem.

Our vet in NC worked wonders with some old ferrets.
Our Podo has insulinoma surgery at age eight and we
had two more years with him after that. The caveat
was that Podo was a big, strong, and otherwise healthy
ferret at the time.

None of us can tell when it's a ferrets' time to pass
on. I find mine tell me clearly when it's time.
