We have been using this as litter for some time now and it works great!
It is dried, pressed hard wood so there are no oils like with cedar and
pine. It does a much better job at odor control than the recycled
newspaper varieties. It also lasts a longer time in the litter box when
you scoop it daily. We buy $40 worth (which is 10 bags) at a time and
store in it the garage. Our Lowes even had it stored away and was able
to sell us some at the end of the summer this year.
