Ferrets are actually used in second hand smoke studies quite often because they do develop a number of the same health problems from second hand smoke as humans do, but do so in much less time.
If you need to look up such studies you'll find a number in Pubmed/Hubmed
Alternatively, I know that quite a number of such studies (not all because I have seen a number more) were mentioned by Bob Church in a post to the Ferret Mailing List:
