Subject: Essiac... Have you tried it?

Hello, I'm new to the group. My older ferret was palpated yesterday at the vet's and I
was told that she has two big tumors on her kidneys. Prognosis was poor for
surgery, or even long-tern survival, but I'd like to keep her as comfy as possible in
the time she has left. (If the tumors are on her kidneys, what type of cancer is that
likely to be? I was too shocked yesterday to ask my vet.)

My vet recommended pediapred to help her feel better (he said it has euphoric
effects), and another vet I know suggested Essiac (Thank you). I was wondering if
anyone here has tried it and thought it helped, or if it had any effect at all? Sloane-
Kettering, the leading researchers on Cancer, say it doesn't work... but maybe it's
different in ferrets? I am not expecting a cure, only to help her feel better. But of
course, I don't want to give her extra stuff just for the sake of making myself feel
like I'm doing "something".

I will be feeding her baby food at least 4 times a day, Pedialyte, all the healthy treats
she might want, and some pediapred in the morning and at night.

Thanks,
Staci
