Yes you need an X ray, but you also should have a blood coulnt done, severe
anemia can cause a similar problem. It usu causes an increased heart rate
as well because the heart is trying to keep up for the low red blood cell
count. If the RBC count is very low, she would not be able to oxygenate
properly because she doesn't have enough cell to carry the oxygen, and even
giving oxygen would not be enough. This would be a case where a trasfusion
would help.

You need to find the cause, cardiac, lung such as pneumonia, pleural effsion
(fluid in the chest, pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs themselves), Anemia
just not enough Red cells to get the oxygen she needs. Get her eval's ASAP.
If it is anemia the pred should help but it might take a while and a
transfusion could help in the mean time.
