In relation to Caity's one facing possible eye surgery: A veterinary opthalmologist will know best what to do. Something around 15 or more years ago our Haleakala who came to us as a retired breeder had an eye which had been bitten through during mating by the canine of a mounting male. She could see light and shadows. though. In her case nothing was done because it had healed before she joined us and she had adjusted to its needs.

When elderly she developed what the vet opthalmologist said looked more like Sjogrens in humans than anything else. (He was originally a human opthalmologist but decided that he'd rather work with critters so got his vet degrees.) We never did find out what it was and never have encountered descriptions of any other ferrets with anything similar. She needed artificial tears very often; can't recall how often but it was very often. Mucus membranes throughout her had problems, too, and that is what took her.

I guess what I am saying is that if the expert thinks that it heals well enough and they think that the anesthesia is too much of a risk it may be that he will adjust. It depends on him, the nature of the injury, etc.
