If you look in the FHL Archives at
http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org
you will find multiple mobility cart designs and also pantyhose sling designs which may help.
When Meeteetse had spinal cord lymphoma (her first symtpom being urinary incontinence, then fecal incontinence and later ataxia) we found that Pred and pain meds were wonderful for her. She would perk right up and got on with life. (Of course, that meant that our carpet became what it is since she was all over the place in more ways than one -- but no helping that since she was more important and we'll replace the carpet when budget allows.) If your vet mentions steroids and pain meds don't discount the possibilities. She did NOT get dopey after her intial adjust period to opiates (which was what was used in her case if I recall right) and the meds gave her a lot of good time.
