Hi Ulrike,
Atropine is fine to use with Iso, but it is
not recommend with Sevo. Not familiar with
vetergesic. Do you know the actual ingredient?
Rimadyl is a good NSAID for dogs, but I would
be afraid to use it with ferrets. Here in the US,
the smallest tablet is 25 mg. Most ferrets would need
1-2 mg, so it would be real hard to cut the tablet small
enough for ferrets. Since ferrets tolerate pred so well,
I would suggest it instead of Rimadyl.
An IV catheter is nice to have just in case anything goes
wrong. Then you can give medicines right into the vein
with no problem. IV fluids are nice too. However for most
surgeries, SQ fluids work just fine too.
Yes, if you give too much IV fluids or too fast then you
can get fluid build up in the lungs, etc.
I would suggest penicillin, amoxicillin, or ampicillin
instead of Baytril for routine perioperative use. These may
prevent Helicobacter gastritis. Baytril is a great antibiotic,
but lets reserve it for seriuos infections.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
