Subject: RE: [ferrethealth] Rimadyl side effects/ferrets
Message-ID: <4308675.1073485047309.JavaMail.root@indium.smartgroups.com>

He has been back to the vet and we're stopping the Rimadyl. He was taking it for a pulled muscle in his hip/leg. (My vet says he sees this often when a ferret gets a nail caught on something and struggles to get free. I've had ferrets for 10+ years and have never heard/thought of this but it makes sense).

My ferret weighs just under 4 lbs so 1/4 of a 25 mg pill would be more than 6 mg (1 x per day) which is more than the recommended dose. Also, the pill isn't scored so one "piece" could contain more active ingredient than another piece.

I know the vets/manufacturer don't consider this a possible side effect, but I'm nearly certain that the Rimadyl caused my ferret to get drowsy and at one time "spaced out" within 1/2 hour of takikng it. It was much like the trance of low blood sugar. If it wasn't the Rimadyl the timing was very coincidental.

Thanks for the replies.
