Sorry about forgetting to write "moderator's note" on the stuff in the brackets, Cindy. My apologies.
Anyway, we, too, have had real problems with two types of fleece, in Jumpstart's case with surgery needed. Like you, we found that the good polartek was perfectly safe, but fake sheeps fleece and fake fur were not. I wound up sewing covers over much of the bedding and that works great. It turns out that the beds wash more easily and last longer than way, too. It DOES take a lot of time, though! If it sheds in your hand, in the washer or in the drier it's much more likley to shed when a ferret from it or grooms in it.
I keep hearing of cases like this where people have ferrets who are prone to doing thing like eating in bed and when ('if" since most folks assume they are entirely fur) the mass is studied it turned out to be fake fibers from fake sheeps fleece or fake fur bedding.
I have to agree with you strongly that those beds -- for ferrets whose behaviors make them susceptible -- are a big mistake, and thank you so much for reminding everyone about that! We put some temporarily in th ecage during Ashling's carcinoma since she likes them so much, but your note has reminded me to remove them now and save them till I get a chance to cover them, so thank you!
