Hi, everyone,
Blaze, who we've been doing post-op care for since a second (left) adrenalectomy and a nephrectomy last week, was doing brilliantly this evening, up to and including wanting to wrestle and playing like there was no tomorrow. He started slowing down perhaps an hour and a half ago. By half an hour ago he was limp and unresponsive. Keith is running him to the emergency vet as we speak and our regular vet is involved already.
I've seen an Addisonian Crisis before, and yes, that's what it looks like, but there were no symptoms at all leading up to it. No shivering, no problems with body temp, no lack of appetite, nothing. Our vet wants glucose checked as well as electrolytes to be sure we're not dealing with insulinoma instead.
Has anyone seen an Addisonian Crisis come on so very fast with no warning? FYI, Blaze is an approximately 6.5 year old extra small male neutered ferret. He had a right adrenalectomy (full vena cava ligation) about two years ago.
Anyway, we'll know what we're dealing with soon. I'd be with him if someone didn't have to watch Ker Avon, who is also in trouble (see separate post).
All the best,
Caity
