Subject: 14 hours of darkness? (Adrenal)

I have heard many times that giving 14 hours of real darkness is a good way
to help prevent adrenal disease. But does it have to be 14 consecutive hours?
That would be nearly impossible in our home, my husband doesn't get off work
until later at night and that is when we let them out for the most part. They do
need some sunlight right? Would it hurt to just give them a few hours at a
time. I realize it must be dark for some period of time for the melatnonin to
kick in, but how long? Any suggestions?
