Pedia pred can sometimes cause stomach ulcers. The stupor is seizural behavior. As you probably already know, seizures have different symptoms. Most of my ferrets have shown obvious symptoms - clawing at there mouth, drooling, glassy eyed and the horrible body twitching. Right now, I have a ferret that used to lie down on the floor and look like a baby seal with his arms flat back. I thought he was simply resting, but since he has never slowed down in his life - he's either running around at warp speed or in such a deep sleep he can't hear you when you call out to him, no in between. (He wasn't twitching or drooling or anything.) I took him in for a check up and he was diagnosed with insulimona. He's no longer doing the seal routine now that he's had surgery.
Just in case, you guys remain stumped you might want to get a second opinion from another vet. While I'm sure your vet loves ferrets (and all animals, otherwise she wouldn't have gone into the field), when humans are ill they often get a second opinion when severely ill so why not do so with your pet? After all, different doctors and vets have had different experiences.
If you do decide to get a second opinion ask the new vet's exerience working with ferrets prior to looking after your dear one. Best of luck.
Kindest Regards,
Julie Livingston
