Hey everyone. I took Kodo to a specialist and she ran a full lab work up on him.
She had to put him to sleep to get enough blood, but he did okay. His glucose level
was 143!!!! This is great! However, his liver enzymes was 347. This is way too
high. I think the highest number that is still in the normal range was 80, so he
definitely has something going on here. We think the Pred that he is on is doing
this. As for his grinding, she thinks that because his liver number is so high, it can
create ammonia when he is eating and cause him pain. She looked in his throat
while he was asleep and didn't see anything wrong. So right now, he is on Denosyl
SD4 for his liver, and we are slowly getting him off of the Pred. When I got him
home, the first thing he did was eat. But after every piece this time, he was grinding
even harder than I've ever heard him. I'm not sure what this means, since with the
first piece of food he did this. I don't think he had time to make any ammonia. She
also asked me to give him milk thistle. I hope all of this works. If anyone has any
thoughts on Kodo's new found condition, I would love to hear them.
Thanks, Haley and Kodo
