Hi, everyone,

Tenchi, a six year old neutered male ferret with no history of any health problems, is now blind. A couple of months ago he wasn't. It happened very quickly There is no sign of cataracts or anything else obvious. Our vet did a major chem panel and everything was blissfully normal or very close to it. I was wondering what could cause this. Our vet just attributes it to age at this point.

It took a few weeks but Tenchi is adapting well at this point and has successfully reasserted himself as our dominant alpha. We had noticed him depressed after Pertwee died and again after Ker Avon passed on. I wonder now if the depression was also a sign of his eyesight diminishing. I think he's going to be fine if this isn't a symptom of something else more worrisome.

I've seen eyesight diminish -- Kodo (nine year old male) is nearly blind from cataracts and Podo (also nine) is developing cataracts as well. For both of them it's been a slow process and they've had time to adapt. This is different.

Anyway, I'm rambling. I'd just like comments or ideas that people might have.

All the best,
Caity and the super seven
