Hi Tracy,
A swollen vulva in an older ferret, with or without
hair loss, is likely adrenal gland disease. With time
you will likely have the hair loss. You may want to go
with Lupron to control the adrenal gland disease until
you can have the surgery done (especially if the vet in
Germany does not feel comfortable doing an adrenal gland
removal in a ferret). If Lupron is not available in Germany, then
you can use melatonin (1mg once a day, about 8 hours after
sunrise).
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
