It sounds like Pollux was not feeling well even before the new ferret?
I am not sure this is all about the cage or the new ferret, I would
have a vet do a full exam and testing on him. Starting with the most
common causes of illness in an older ferret ( insulinoma, adrenal
disease)
and perhaps considering a foreign body if vomiting is the predominant
symptom.

If tooth grinding, black tarry stools then ulcers from stress is also
likely.
Can start with carafate to coat the stomach and a bland diet of meat
baby food or science A/D and keep separated from the baby with
a close eye on how much eating, how his stools look and how
active he is.
Just keeping him in a separate cage and maybe in your room until
he feels better may help.
