Had to reply. Not sure how everyone introduces their ferrets, but I've
never had this problem. The way I do it: New ferret kept in cage (where
others can smell him/her). Supervised play time, BUT I do apply Vanilla
Extract to neck, butt and tummy. This I continue for 1-2 weeks. I also,
change bedding. I put the newcomers bedding in with the others and vice
versa that they get the smell of each other and become accustomed to it.
This has always worked and all 20 of the ferrets have free roam with no
problems.

Stress can cause some frightening experiences. It can also help bring on
(like in people) a cold, flu, etc. My opinion.
