Subject: Vet using Lupron for the first time--questions

The Vet I work for will be using Lupron for the first
time on one of my ferrets, and has asked me to get as
much info for her as I can before we do.

The Lupron that we have is the 3-month Depot. It
comes in a pre-filled syringe. (You just break the
seal to reconstitute it.) The concentration is 11.25
mg in 1.5 mL of diluent, which works out to 7.5 mg/mL.
The ferret is 2.5 pounds, so to give a dose of 200
mcg/kg, we figured the dose to be 0.03 mL.

My questions are:
1) Since it comes in a pre-filled syringe, what is the
best way to draw it up?

2) Once we reconstitute it, what is the best way to
store it? We don't see many ferrets, and this will
probably only be used for mine, so we will need to
store it long-term.

3) What is the best way to administer it? We already
know it needs to be given IM, but are there any tricks
to giving it that we should know about?

4) Since we need to give such a small amount, can it
be diluted to make sure he gets the full dose, and if
so, with what?

5) Any other tips or tricks? Also, how long before we
should start seeing improvement (i.e. hair regrowth)?

Like I said, this is the first time our clinic has
used this medication, so any ideas you could give
would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance to anyone who has time to answer
these questions!
