My vet has been using Lupron on my ferret for about 2 years now with great =
success. After her first shot, her hair started growing back and she had to=
tal regrowth on her shoulders after about 2 months. Her vulva started swell=
ing again after about 4 months, so she got her second shot. She never lost =
her hair again after that first shot and the only signs of a problem were h=
er swollen vulva. She then went about 6 months before needing a third shot =
(again, the swollen vulva). She then went almost 8 months with no problems,=
and then a few weeks ago, the swollen vulva and her 4th shot. We also noti=
ced that when her vulva was swollen, she was also extremely active and cons=
tantly on the go. My vet calls the prescription in to a compounding pharmac=
y called Professional Arts Pharmacy. Their number is: 800-832-9285 I'm sure=
they would be happy to answer your questions about their dosage of Lupron =
for ferrets, and any other questions you may have about shelf life, reconst=
itution, etc. The dose I get for my ferret is $200 per shot. My ferret had =
the surgery to remove the adrenal gland, but it was the right gland that wa=
s swollen around the vena cava. There are vets in other areas who can perfo=
rm this surgery, but we decided it was too risky a surgery to begin with, a=
nd that's when we decided to try the Lupron. It's well worth the $200 per s=
hot and even though that's a high price, it's not so bad spread out every f=
ew months.
