Don't be shocked. Adrenal disease is probably the single most common major illness that ferrets get. The good news is that it is almost always curable when surgery is done. Please check the FHL archives. There are lots of good posts about adrenal disease both from vets and experienced ferret owners.

In the case of the 10 ferrets we have or have had six have had adrenal disease between the ages of one and a half and seven and a half. All six had surgery. All did fine. Four of the six never had a problem again. Two had to go back eventually to get the second gland.

So long as you have a very good, experienced ferret vet your girl should have an excellent chance at a full and normal life.

The usual disclaimer applies: I am not a vet but have had way too much experience with adrenal disease and surgery.

All the best,
Caity and the super seven
(Podo, Romana, and Nyssa have one adrenal gland each :)
