Hello All,
I am writing about my 4 yr old male Ferris who has the following symtoms
Ferris has had occasional (about 2 x year) tarry stools
He had his last one last week. Ferris normally is a very happy active guy however for the last 2 weeks he has not been himself.I would not call it lethargic--just low interest in usual games & toys etc. He is the kinda guy you'll see throwing himself in the air contorting all the way--for no apparent reason :)A few days ago he seemed in pain when I picked him up (he stiffened his tail) so I decided to make an appt for the vet to see him. Since that day he has suckled on one of my females ears a few times, he has not done this since he was a kit- Perhaps for comfort/soothing. yesterday before the vet appt I ran a Hemoccult test on his stool & it was most definately positive.
Finaly to my question-I explained all of this to the vet and I was sent home with a bottle of Carafate and told not to worry basically. When I pushed & asked if he would treat/test more aggresivly if he had more frequent tarry stools he replied yes then he would need a lot more meds.
I am not comfortable with this and need some sage input please.
He did poke & prod him quite a bit and Ferris is not vomiting or having diarrhea.
Ferris is still not himself and I am still concerned
Ideas & thoughts would be greatly appreciated
Thank you so much
Mary Ann
