I think Alicia makes an incredibly important point here. A shelter environment is not the same as the environment for a ferret in a loving home all their life getting all the best of everything. I think it's important to remember that just because shelters are experiencing a very high rate of recurrence of adrenal disease doesn't mean that everyone else will.

2/3 of our ferrets who have had adrenal disease had no recurrence at all and lived on for years. This parallels what I've learned from other ferret owners in the area. I'd hate to think that anyone would not do adrenal surgery at all or else do both glands right off just because of the fear of recurrence.

All the best,
