Hi Ferret Zealot,
You can get a rough estimate of the carbohydrate
percentage. Just add up: the % protein, the % fat, the
% fiber, the % moisture, and the % ash (usually 6- 7.5%).
Then take 100% - the total % from above. This will give
you a rough % carbohydrate. However remember not all
carbohydrates are created equal. If you go by the glycemic
index, carbohyrates like rice and wheat will produce more
glucose than corn, barley, and sorghum. So look at both
the amount and the type of carbohydrate(s) in the food.
Marshall's Ferret food has 26.2% carbohydrate (mostly corn),
and Totally Ferret original Adult has 24.8% carbohydrate (mostly
rice). Iam's kitten has 27.8% carbs (from corn, barley and sorghum).
Pretty Bird's Natural Gold for Ferrets has roughly 5% carbohydrate
(mostly potato flakes)!
Just food for thought,
