Hello,

Yesterday I took my 9 month old neutered male ferret to the vet. The night before I had come home from work to find several dime and nickel sized firm lumps on his back - he was also somewhat lethargic. That morning when I left for work, he was normal. We went to the vet the following evening when I got home from work (yesterday) to have him looked at.

My vet checked him over and attempted to aspirate one of the lumps, but they were solid, no pus or fluid. We discovered a few more very painful lumps lower on his abdomen, on his sides just in front of the hind legs.

My vet called in one of the other vets at the clinic, and the two of them both checked him over. The second vet took some cell samples from one of the lumps lower on his abdomen to look at under the scope. Apparently it was odd enough for her to want to take the slide to the Univ. of Penn today for them to look at. Both vets are unsure what the problem is. The slide will be going to U.Penn today, and my boy goes back for a biopsy of one of the lumps tomorrow.

He's home now, in a separate cage, still lethargic but eating and drinking on his own. He has shared a cage with 8 other ferrets, and none of them show any signs of this problem. Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be for me? I know I don't have much info on it yet, but will post as soon as I find out any more.

Thanks
Meri Martin
