Hi Everyone

I was wondering if adding more foods containing Tryptophan ie fresh chicken, turkey, beef, occasional raw egg etc, to a ferrets diet, might help to decrease the chance of adrenal disease? From my understanding, in humans, Tryptophan is turned into Serotonin, then into Melatonin - does it work in this way in the ferret?

I have 8 ferrets age ranging between 8 months and 5/6 years, and have just encountered my first (hopefully my last) adrenal - my eldest ferret. She's just had her spleen and left adrenal removed, and now I'm thinking ahead and trying to protect the right adrenal.
I have always covered their cages and tried to control the amount of light they receive. Plus they eat fresh chicken several times each week, but I do wonder if adding more fresh meats might also help
Any thoughts on this even being a possibility?

Many thanks
Carol
