Sepsia is an overwhelming infection in the blood and rest of the body. These
are nasty and often difficult to treat withot the aid of cultures, IV fluids
and IV antibiotics and even that is no guarentee of resolution. Causes are
many, one of the most common comes from a leak or tear in part of the
intestinal tract leading to peritonitis and sepsis. This can occur with a
long standing foreign body obstruction, cancer, or severe fulminant IBD or
Autoimmune intestinal disease. There are other causes such as direct
transfer, a wound from a sharp dirty object (Ie old nail). and many others.
Don't know if this is what you were looking for. I had a case in a cat
that had lymphoma of the intestnal tract that this happened too and the
bacterila proliferation was so severe the bacteria consumed all the glucose
and we could not keep it up even with a dextrose infusion. I have had
ferrets with blockages stomach or intestine that would go hypoglycemic. But
I suspect yours might be insulinoma. As for Azium its okay in the short
term but I do not agree that is is easier to stop Azium then pred. Hope
this helps.
