I have two ferrets that reacted to both Fervac-D and Merial's Purevax
CDV..and my vet has recommended that neither receive any further vaccinations - both
for CDV and rabies...and have followed up with a letter on the clinic's
letterhead as such..
These ferrets are 3 and 4 years old respectively. While I know firsthand the
devastation of distemper, I can not in good faith subject either of these
ferrets to the possibility of death based on the vaccine. In both cases, these
ferrets have had a severe enough reaction that I can't take the chance that the
next time I vaccinate that they will survive (Both had bloody diarrhea, bloody
vomit and had problems with heart rate and breathing). In my personal ferrets
(both are) I had even separated the vaccinations by about 14 months.
I think that in cases like this, that your vet can document the problems with
vaccination and provide you with a letter waiving the vaccination protocol...
