We tend to go for a general exam and a CBC with Chemistry Panel before surgery. That blood test grouping has helped save ferrets who looked fine but were not up the surgery once tested.
Sometimes we also have an ultrasound done IF there is cause (checking the heart on an older ferret or one who has a questionable heart, having a look-see if there is reason to suspect that something else which is out of the norm (typically not an adrenal growth or not insulinoma) may be present, etc.. We almost never do the TN Panel, reserving that only for ferret who may have a decent chance of not having an adrenal growth. I couold imagine the use of an ultrasound if the vet wants to have an image to see how well an inflammed prostate in a male with dysuria responds.
Is there reason to suspect something else may be going on, too?
Normal disclaimer: I'm not a vet, just someone with almost 22 years with ferrets.
