Subject: coughing after spleenectomy

My 6.5yr old ferret had to have her spleen removed about 2 weeks ago. She was doing great for the first week and a half. But a few days ago, we noticed that she was occasionally coughing during the night, and by Sunday didn't feel like eating. Back to the vet we went , but her lungs sound clear, heart sounds strong, not anemic. The vet is hoping she picked up an Upper respiratory infection due to her weakened immune system and gave her fluids and antibiotics. I just have a bad feeling that it isn't this. Every time I have had a ferret with a cough it has been "bad" news. Has anyone else experienced something like this after a spleenectomy?

Thanks.
Julie
