My Maverick is a 6-7 year old male that came to our shelter about 1 1/2 yea=
rs ago. He has been having diarrhea and we can't seem to get control of it=
. I will give you an outline of what we have tried and see if we are missi=
ng something or what we need to do next.
I took him to our vet on Feb 17 and we started him on Carafate (1gm/10ml) .=
5ml every 4 hours, 20 minutes before his food. Amoxil (pediatric drops) .5=
ml 2x/day before his food. Then I would feed him 20-24 cc's of Bob C's Ch=
icken Gravy (which all of my ferrets love to get once a day as a "treat"). =
We also put him on Flagyl .75ml 1x/day for 10 days. He seemed to get some=
harder poops between the diarrhea, but never fully got rid of it.
We started a second round of Amoxil on March 9 and added Sub-Q fluids (up t=
o 50cc, 2x/day). So I now have him on Carafate, Amoxil, Bob C's Chicken Gr=
avy again (same as above doses). But we have added Kaolin Pectin (anit-dia=
rreal) .5 ml every 4 hours before food and Pediapred (6.7/5ml) .5 ml 2x/day=
after his food.
Does anyone have a similar situation that they can give me some help. I've=
been reading "Ferrets, Rabbits, and Rodents" and have wondered about PBD. =
His diarrhea is very watery and a forest green color. His energy level is=
very low. He had lost weight, but seems to be slowly gaining it back.
Thank you.
