Subject: Gerber Chicken mixed with kibble OK for diet?

Following the advice here, on the FML, and other sites, I tried my ferrets on the
Gerber chicken food. As one of mine seemed to be VERY particular, (obsessing on
one brand), I took the thought of illness-induced anorexia quite seriously. I figured
it was a non-starter with Mr. Finicky, but thought I'd try anyhow.

Weezer, a small, thin neutered male albino, absolutely LOVES it. And (naturally!)
only picks at his kibble now. Something Dr. Williams mentioned on his site.

Prior to his 'epiphany', ;) his intake was regular and adequate, though he
approached his meals with a complete lack of enthusiasm...excepting bites of the
crust of Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop Tarts (I know, I know! NOW. :*( ) and
a few Pounce chicken flavored cat treats. And even THOSE he stashed more than
ate.

But now, not only has he gained a little much-needed weight, he DEMANDS to be
fed. And insists his meals be regular, timely and warm. LOL. I should also add that
he plays MUCH harder and for longer intervals than before. Naturally, I would prefer
to continue with the Gerber's, if at all feasible.

I read on Dr. Williams' site that he fed a ferret of his for a few years a diet of Gerber
chicken and crushed kibble, I think for the ferret's IBD. (But I wouldn't swear to this
dx.)

While I know that it's NOT the optimum diet, is there any reason that I CAN'T feed
Weezer the same way?

And how much kibble is enough? What kibble characteristics are preferred and what
references would be useful? I DO want to make sure that he gets the best kibble,
for obvious reasons. :)

I already give him the recommended dose of Ferretvite, as he has been eating the
Gerber chicken now for about 2 weeks. Is that necessary when mixing kibble with
Gerber's?

I've been giving him three jars of Gerber's a day, in four-to-six meals, depending on
his preference that day.

Any thoughts muchly appreciated.
