Long term pred. use can lead to osteoporosis, I would assume that the calcium
supplementation is sort of a preventative approach. IT can also cause low calcium,
low potassium, high sodium. I have never seen it recommended on short term pred.
use or in children on prednisone. However, if there are multiple underlying
problems, like cancer, other hormone issues, kidney disease, long term use, there
may be a need for extra mineral and vitamin supplementation on an individual
basis, well that is just my thought on it. Patty K.
