I was on prednisone for 4 months and my doctor recommended calcium supplements. He told me that pred can cause bone density loss occasionally even in low doses for short periods of usage. I was on high does and had to have a bone density test after 2 months. I'm not sure if this would apply to ferrets. From what I understand they seem to have a different reaction to pred than humans...Thank God they don't experience the same side effects as humans.
