OKay, this one should go to the vet, preferably with some gunk present to study. It IS possible to have a growth (rare but it happens at times), an infection, or sometimes even mites present or more present in one ear.

If you go to the files section at
http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/ferrethealth
you will find a compilation on parasites and what to do for them. More recent info is in the Complete FHL Archives at

It could be just wax build-up but it is hard to tell from your post and knowing the level of damage a fungus infection can cause if not caught in time it really seems like a vet check would be wise. If nothing nasty is present you are home free and your vet can show you the vet's preferred cleaning technique. If there is something going on your vet can show you the telling signs and show you how to seek things like mites under magnification (They are very clear so you look for motion.), plus the vet can suit the approach to the cause.
