My nine year old female ferret has started losing weight.....she is a small
little thing to begin with (last summer she weighed 1.5 lbs.) She is 5
ounces lighter now, and this has just happened in the past few months. She
still eats her food, part of our cats' canned food (stolen from their
plate), a few raisins each day, drinks plenty of water and gets daily
supplements of Nutrical paste. She runs, plays, poops and pees
normally.....sleeps a lot, but she always has done that. There is no hair
loss (other than a little of the usual after-winter shedding), no seizures,
no vomiting, no jaw-grinding, just a little itchiness on her back (checked
for fleas, and found none). I checked her over.....no anal or vulvar
swelling, no open sores anywhere and the mast cell tumor between her
shoulders is unchanged.
I am at a loss to know what is going on. I have tried other types of
kibble, canned ferret food, even human meat scraps; but she will have
nothing to do with any of it. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate
hearing them.
