Testing always makes sense because until the cause is found it can't be known if the ferret might have medical options. It would be sad to just give up before knowing if that is a warranted approach.
With a ferret who is fading a CBC with Chemistry Panel tends to be a good place to start.
We have found that a/d mixed with heated water can be a very useful way to add weight to many ferrets. Your vet will sell cans of this.
