I've had two with only one kidney and they've both done just fine. Bessie
(RIP) had her right kidney removed last June. She came from the local
animal shelter very adrenal. Her right adrenal gland had encapsulated her
right kidney and Doc removed the kidney and a liver lobe. She just died
last month from things unrelated to her kidney. You can see her adrenal
tumor, including her kidney (on the left) and liver lobe (on the right)
here.

Sinclair had a huge tumor (not adrenal) that encapsulated his right kidney
and ureter. His urine was actually emptying into it. Doc removed his right
kidney and ureter last July or August and he is doing great, a huge 4 lb.
bouncy boy! He came to me that way and until the surgery was scheduled, I
had to take him in every couple of days to have the urine removed
(abdominocentesis).

However as I was shocked to recieve this news I didn't think to ask if was
possible to operate
and remove the kidney and have him live on only one. I was wondering if
it was and what would be the chances of a full recovery bearing in mind
his old age?
