That's a tough question. Most here would say the sooner the better. Then again, our former shelter vet didn't like to do adrenal surgery until the ferret had been showing symptoms for 3 months or so. That was because in his experience, any sooner and he might go in and not be able to tell which gland was affected. On the other hand, sometimes the tumors can be aggressive and grow quickly.

Personally, I might wait a bit longer if I was unsure. I have not had a problem waiting after the first symptoms presented and surgeries on my ferrets after waiting a few months have been uneventful and curative.
