We foster Arlo from a local shelter. He arrived at the shelter bald in Dec.=
2002. He then had his left adrenal removed, all his hair grew back. In the=
surgery, the adrenal was crushed and not a clean removal. By about April =
2003 he was again showing adrenal symptoms. We tried Lupron (400 microgram=
s/month) but no real improvement. In July 2003, he was opened up again, an=
d the only thing found was some free floating 'adrenal fat' tissue accordin=
g to the vet. The right adrenal was diagnosed normal. He was again put on =
Lupron when signs came back. Spotting and marking. Earlier this year, he s=
tarted to always have a wet belly from dribbling urine and his prostate was=
found to be enlarged by feel. Arlo at this point was put on flutamide to =
try and reduce the prostate. After two months there was no real improvemen=
t. We asked the vet to open him up again, she found a very large right adr=
enal. She had recently learnt to do right adrenal removal via ligation. Th=
is she did and Arlo seemed on the way to recovery. He was placed on florin=
ef, baytril, sulcrafate. He stayed on florinef for two weeks post surgery t=
hen the vet asked us to take him off florinef as his cortisol levels were g=
ood. At the same time he had not started to eat on his own so she started h=
im on prednisone. He has been on pred now for two weeks and all seemed wel=
l. He still is not eating on his own and is hand fed twice a day with Hill=
s' A/D (30-36ml/serving). He has been alert, bouncy and playful until toda=
y when we had to rush Arlo to the vets because he was straing to urinate bu=
t without success. He has done this before but it usually resolved in a fe=
w minutes. This time he try many times, mostly straining for up to 1-2 minu=
tes with out result. The vets have had to drain his bladder by needle and =
then catheterize him to check for blockages. He has had a wet belly for so=
me time, can someone give us some idea what could be the problem. Our vets=
are very good but this is their fist time with this surgery.

Thanks for any help.

Nigel
