It's interesting what is NOT known about ferrets in relation to vaccines.

For instance, *IF* I recall right, the particulars for titers numbers weren't known as of either last year or the year before. Are they known now?

Also, remembering back to when rabies vax were first being tested in ferrets it was interesting how some of the vax tested differed in ferrets as opposed to other animals. One only worked for about a half year, for instance, so was dropped from the running. Another caused handicaps (and a vet involved in the testing personally adopted those individuals, one of whom wound up living to a ripe old age despite it).

Another thing is that there has not been testing to see how much longer than a year they might give protection and to what degree. I know that at least one of the older two Canine Distemper vax does not last 3 years in ferrets for full protection and might not last two. A vet we used to have (who has since moved twice so this is some time ago) had a family of ferrets with Canine Distemper referred to him. The younger ones had not been vaccinated and all died. The older ones had been vaccinated, but I cna't recall if it was two or three years before. Some day I'll have to look in the FML Archives to see if that is in there. I think it was three years. Anyway, they got Canine Distemper, but survived though they were left with some pretty serious permanent damage.
