In my experience, an indicator of true obesity (which
is rare in ferrets that get a decent amount of
exercise) is being able to feel a layer of fat just
under the skin. General bulkiness isn't typically a
problem, in my opinion.

Actually, fat gain is a symptom of adrenal disorder --
but it's things like fat deposits around the lymph
nodes and in the chest cavity. The deposits around
the lymph nodes comes up as a question periodically --
a lot of vets don't know what to make of that.

Unless the weight is hampering the ferret's ability to
get around, I'd leave well enough alone, provided your
guy gets enough exercise, and the vet says he's ok.
