Thanks for all the advice! I took him to see his regular vet today, and he's
got no thinning hair or thinning skin, no heart murmur, and it is not fluid
in his tummy. No enlarged lymph nodes, all organs are fine on palpation,
poops are normal and he was very ferrety in her office -- knocking things
over and digging into my purse. She's doing complete blood work but her
opinion is that he is indeed just overweight.

If bloodwork confirms he's otherwise healthy, she'll let us know what
kind/how much food he should eat and what size portions to feed. Also, he
needs more exercise. We've decided we'll take him for evening walks outside
(at least until the cicadas take over!!)

He doesn't really seem bored, but he pretty much eats and sleeps. It's warm
here in the Northeast right now but when I think back he's probably been
bored for a while.

My vet also wants a monthly weight check until he's a more "normal" weight.
He was 3 lb. 15 oz today. Will keep you posted!
