If you can't monitor the blood glucose post-surgery it would pay to ask very carefully WHY the pred is continuing. Did a large amount of affect pancreas have to remain?
Glucose usually is NOT given in insulinoma except when a crash occurs or when the insulinoma is so advanced that it, also, is needed.
Why Valium? It's an addictive depressant.
